HYPNOGORIA 71 - Scarred For Life

Do you remember the '70s? Strange decade wasn't it? Post apocalyptic dramas, weird crime fighters, spooky SF shows, and some genuinely terrifying ghost stories... And that was just the children's television! Come take a trip back to that very disturbing decade where terror and horror lurked everywhere from TV to comics to board games and even snack foods! Relive those golden days with Mr Jim Moon as we take an in-depth look at Scarred For Life Volume 1 by Stephen Brotherstone and Dave Lawrence, a marvellous tome that both catalogues and celebrate that was weird and unsettling in the 1970s!

Well, what a lovely review! Thank you very much, Jim, I'm delighted that you got so much out of Volume One. And you're right - it was written from the point of view of us as 70s kids. Volume Two will see a hugely expanded film section, thanks to the rise of VHS and video nasties, a section on the Dole Dramas of the 80s (unemployment was one of teen anxieties).
Meanwhile, the PIF section will feature heroin, AIDS and nuclear war. And, speaking of... the final third of book two will be devoted to all things Cold War. From Threads and The Day After to Protect and Survive. And, in keeping with our policy of leaving no stone unturned, we'll take a look at Cold War pop songs, with a rundown of the top 10 pop songs about nuclear war!
Expect Clive Barker, Stephen King and Shaun Hutson. Warrior, 2000AD, Oink!, Scream! and Watchmen. Channel 4, with its Red Triangle Films and weird European animations. Shocking computer games such as Custer's Revenge, Barbarian and, erm, Sam Fox Strip Poker (look, it was all we had, okay?). Dungeons and Dragons and the Satanic Panic. Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World. The Unexplained magazine. And lots (and I mean lots) more.
See you next year :)

I cannot wait! Beyond the horrors of leg warmers and deely bopperss, personal scars include terrifying kids TV plays such as "In a Dark Dark Box" on Dramarama and "Death Angel" on Theatrebox, Wolfie Smith vs the Wendigore in 2000 AD, the brilliantly inappropriate for children anthology The Gruesome Book, and possibly the most disgustingly trashy novel I've ever read - Eat Them Alive by Pierce Nace

...we dont go round there anymore. Not since it 'appened...
These chilling but necessary public information films should be reshown now for the benefit of child safety. Most don't listen to parents/ elders these so should be scared shitless by these films as punishment.
